Making Australia a better place
Our Projects & Programs
Where an interesting community need is brought to our attention it is assessed by our team. The key decisions include fulfilment of a community need, whether it offers innovation and can leverage our skills, connections and resources.
Vital Call Emergency Service
The Foundation pioneered the introduction of computerised medical alert systems in Western Australia to reduce the reliance on the hospital system for the elderly and infirm. The Vital Call monitoring system (with its daily check-in facility) enabled users to remain in the comfort and security of their own home – knowing that help was a button-push away.
One Man’s Journey
A response to a request for sponsorship of the Western Australian Children’s Choir led to a more elaborate plan. Initial discussions with the late George Fay (the Choir’s Musical Director) about underwriting a CD evolved into a significant fund-raising project to benefit Motor Neurone Disease Associations throughout Australia.
Authors Publishing Platform
In 2023, we established a separate division to fill what we see as a niche in the indie (self) publishing market. While there is a multitude of offerings at all stages of book production, there does not appear to be a one-stop shop for budding authors to achieve their dreams without significant financial commitment.
Social Justice Program
There is no clear framework to compensate those wrongly or fraudulently convicted and imprisoned in Western Australia. Currently, an “ex-gratia” payment relies on the whim of the Attorney-General.
Australia’s Last Whaling Station
Our predecessor structure – The Jaycees Community Foundation Inc (now named Albany Heritage Foundation Inc) was gifted Australia’s last operating whaling station in 1980 as a derelict industrial site.
Other Projects
Stars of WA
Never afraid to pioneer innovative ideas, the Foundation, in collaboration with the Great Southern Development Commission and supported by Tourism WA, researched and developed a data researched tourism marketing program.
The World of Whales
The Foundation commissioned Sally Foy, a natural history co-author of the Foundation’s Wild Pilbara book, to write a book about whales with particular relevance to Albany’s whaling station operations.
The Wild Pilbara
The Foundation secured sponsorship of $44,000 to ensure the production of the first comprehensive coverage of the flora and fauna of Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Sassy Ability Foundation Ltd
An approach from the Head of Social Impact at Swan Districts Football Club seeking assistance in conversion of an informal group into a formal not-for-profit structure.
